This is how Hey Nellie handles your information. We aim to keep it short and human. If anything is unclear, write to us at support@heynellie.app.

Who we are

Hey Nellie is operated by Hey Nellie App Pte. Ltd. ("we", "us"), a small team building a calm app for busy parents. This notice covers how we collect and use information at https://heynellie.app, through our waitlist signup, and in the Hey Nellie mobile app.

Information we collect

You give us:

  • Your first name and email address, so we can put you on the waitlist and send updates.
  • Answers about your family setup — the kind of family you have, ages of kids, the tools you use today, and what you would find useful in beta. This helps us pick the right early beta families.
  • Account details — your name, email address, and password (stored hashed) when you create an app account.
  • Your family's content — the tasks, reminders, lists, calendar events, notes, voice notes, and messages you exchange with Nellie, the household details you set up, and any documents or photos you choose to upload.

We collect automatically:

  • Device and usage info — browser type, screen size, pages you visit, and approximate location based on your IP address.
  • App device info — device model, OS version, app version, and a push notification token so we can deliver reminders and nudges.
  • Marketing context — UTM tags and the link you came from (referrer), so we can understand which channels work.
  • Diagnostic logs and security events that help us keep the service reliable.

How we use it

We use personal data to:

  • Provide the app: turn what you tell Nellie into reminders, tasks, and updates, and keep your household in sync.
  • Run and improve the waitlist and pick early beta families.
  • Email you about Hey Nellie — launch news and beta invites. You can opt out at any time.
  • Send you the notifications you have asked for — reminders, nudges, and household updates.
  • Provide customer support, protect the service, and send important service messages.
  • Understand how visitors use the site so we can make it better.

We do not sell your personal information.

How AI processing works, and who receives your data

Nellie's smarts come from third-party AI service providers that process your content on our behalf. When you talk to Nellie, the following data is sent to these providers so Nellie can respond: the messages and brain dumps you send her, voice notes you record (so they can be transcribed), photos and documents you choose to upload (so Nellie can read them), and the household context needed to answer — such as your relevant reminders, tasks, lists, and events.

The providers that process this data are Amazon Web Services (via Amazon Bedrock, which runs the AI models that power Nellie, including Anthropic Claude models) and Google (via the Gemini API, used for some media transcription). They process your content under contract, only to provide the service to us, with protections equivalent to this policy — and they do not use your content to train their models.

The app asks for your permission before your content is shared with these AI providers — you are asked to consent the first time you start talking to Nellie, and you can withdraw consent at any time by emailing support@heynellie.app. Without that consent, your content is not sent to AI providers.

AI suggestions are generated from the information available to the app and may be incomplete or incorrect. Please review important dates, school information, medical details, travel plans, and other sensitive information before relying on a suggestion.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Draft cookie (hn_draft) — saves your in-progress waitlist answers so you do not lose them on reload. It is encrypted, HTTP-only, and expires after 24 hours.
  • Google Analytics — measures aggregate site traffic so we can improve the experience. You can disable analytics with a browser extension or by turning off cookies.

Who we share it with

We use trusted services to run things. They process your data on our behalf under contract:

  • Household members — content you put in shared spaces is visible to the people in your household.
  • Cloud hosting and AI providers — Amazon Web Services stores data and, through Amazon Bedrock, powers Nellie's responses; Google's Gemini API handles some media transcription (see the AI section above).
  • Notion (Notion Labs, Inc.) — stores waitlist entries.
  • Firebase (Google LLC) — delivers push notifications.
  • Google Analytics (Google LLC) — measures site traffic.
  • Email and infrastructure providers, which we will list here as we add them.

We may also share information if required by law, or to protect Hey Nellie, our users, or the public.

International transfers

Our service providers may process your information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to protect your data.

How long we keep it

We keep your waitlist information for as long as we are running the waitlist plus a reasonable period afterward. If you ask us to delete it, we will do so promptly unless we have a legal reason to keep it.

App account data is kept while your account is active. When you delete your account — in the app, or by emailing support@heynellie.app — we delete your personal data promptly, except where the law, security, billing, or backup processes require us to keep limited records.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct it, or ask us to update it.
  • Ask us to delete it.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, and receive a portable copy.
  • Withdraw consent — for marketing emails, or for AI processing by emailing support@heynellie.app.

Email us at support@heynellie.app to exercise any of these rights. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority where you live.

Security

We protect your information with reasonable technical safeguards — encrypted transport (HTTPS), encrypted draft cookies, and access controls on the systems that store your data. No internet service is 100% secure, but we take this seriously.

Children's privacy

Hey Nellie accounts are for adults. Parents may add information about their kids to organise family life — that information is under the parents’ control, and is only shared with AI providers under the same consent and protections described above.

We do not knowingly collect information directly from anyone under 16; if you believe we have, email us and we will remove it. Please only add information about children or other household members that is useful for organising family life, and delete information when it is no longer needed.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. For substantive changes we will give signed-up users a heads-up by email.
